I told them the capacitor reading and they refused to quote for the job of replacing it, only mentioning their hourly labour rate (the job takes less than five minutes). My nearest service agent is 110km from home (as are most things). I will also relay my Davey service experience for reference. I had been feeling like the pump's minimum flow rate without cycling had been creeping upwards for months previously, and now the minimum flow rate is lower than it was with the failing capacitor. After capacitor replacement pump works normally. Removed and tested 12uF capacitor - performing at 4.8uF. The next day the pump tripped the circuit breaker whenever it was turned on. Switching the power outlet off and on would briefly rectify the problem. Just posting to log similar behaviour and the same solution as reported by and XP350H, suddenly ceased automatically starting when tap opened. The only thing that can possibly wear out now is the micro-switch, and it is really easily replaced. I rearranged the wiring so the micro-switch now just breaks the Active, and soldered those wires to the micro-switch.ĭone! Finished! Working like a dream! It is now just a simple Pressure Switch! It's a mini micro-switch, with very small terminals, and it was obvious that they had been making intermittent contact with the little spade connectors… Could have been the problem all along !!! This left me with just a simple micro-switch, operated by the pressure cylinder and its adjustable spring! I pulled the Hydrascan apart, and removed all the tiny wires and the circuit board. I have just solved my Hydrascan problems completely!

If your pump cannot run out of water, then you can dispense with all the complexity. It has an amazingly complex system of sensors and electronics which is probably wonderful idiot-proofing if your pump really needs protecting from lack of water …

The Hydrascan is far too clever for its own good. I have been putting up with the Davey Hydrascan problems for years, and I finally did something about it!
